Finding God in All Things

With the weather starting to change, I felt myself again pondering the wind, a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Because I usually pray the rosary outside, I often notice the wind and feel an instant connection, a sense that I am being surrounded by God the Holy Spirit.  

I find that his presence can manifest in a subtle breeze or in a powerful gust; regardless of the strength, it always seems to be intimate and strong, the breath of life. When I become aware in this way, I feel so humbled, incredibly blessed and unworthy.  

Today, as I reflected, I thought about how having the wind at your back can make work light and quick. Every step is easier and more efficient. The wind can even make some arduous things feel effortless. It is easy to see that the Holy Spirit aids us in this same way, guiding us toward the right path and giving us the strength and grace to complete God’s will.

I also considered the contrary, how wind can make simple work difficult by adding resistance. Sometimes it brings challenges from unexpected directions or by introducing contaminants. I pondered how, in this way, the wind makes you stronger and teaches you to persevere. It is similar with the Holy Spirit as God allows suffering and challenges for our own refinement.   

So it is with our lives; God allows all things, both joy and suffering, for our own good and for the good of the Church.This is how we are formed in Christ. Praise God for sending his Holy Spirit down upon us and surrounding us with his power and love.
