Dear Young Church, My Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
I know that you have been out of school since March because of COVID-19, and, finally, you are back in school as well as in your Parish School of Religion either virtually or in-person.
There has not been an incident in our lifetime that has closed our schools for three months and encouraged people to engage in virtual, at-home learning.
I write to you to remind you of the great gift of education. Your studies are supposed to expand your mind and give you the knowledge that you need now and in the future. I know that you will take your studies seriously, and please express appreciation to your principal, teachers and your parents for making sure that you grow in knowledge.
To those who attend a Parish School of Religion: I encourage you to take the opportunity to grow not only in general knowledge, but also in your relationship with Christ and knowledge about him and the Church. Be faithful in prayer and in studying about Christ.
To those who are in our Catholic schools: Please know that you have a unique opportunity to grow in faith and to do so in a spirit that fosters the spirit and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Please know that I remember you in prayer. We pray together for protection from the virus and we pray together for your growth, wisdom and for your relationship to grow with Christ.
Wishing you God’s blessings, I am a Brother in Christ,
Most Reverend Gregory M. Aymond Archbishop of New Orleans
