On April 11, Archbishop Checchio celebrated the annual Catholic Youth Awards Mass to honor outstanding youth and young adults throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans. This year’s Mass was held at St. Dominic Church in New Orleans. During the Mass, several different awards were given to honor the faith and leadership of the young people in their parishes and parish CYO programming.
The St. Timothy Award is the highest award the Archdiocese of New Orleans can bestow upon a young person. This national award seeks to recognize, from the diocesan level, outstanding youth who exemplify Christian service, Catholic leadership and good moral standards. Awardees are nominated by their parish Pastor or parish Youth Leader.

The Matt Hill Award is given to select young people, nominated by their parish pastor or parish youth leader, who have exhibited excellence in leadership qualities and excelled in our Archdiocesan CYO Athletics Leagues. This year’s honorees are Jacob Gusten, St. Catherine of Siena and Andrew Frey, St. Dominic.
The St. Pier Giorgio Frassati Award recognizes a young adult who has been significantly active in ministry in their community, or a person who has made a significant contribution to Youth & Young Adult Ministry in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. This year’s honorees are Marinda Lee-Houston, St. Peter Claver and Daniel Laurent, Visitation of Our Lady.
The Adult Service Award is given to adults who have worked or volunteered in youth ministry for their parish for over five years. They are selected by their parish Pastor or parish Youth Leader.
