My husband Frank and I recently experienced a “leap of faith” opportunity which was running for the office of Mayor for our hometown city New Orleans. God laid it on Frank’s heart that now was the time to throw his hat in the race. He had toyed with the idea and even went so far as to fill out an application but never went any further. This past July everything changed.
Since the time he was a child, at the age of four he was an avid reader. A voting poll was next door to his home, and his father would take him into the booth and tell him which lever to pull.
Through the years, especially when he could vote, he continued his interest in politics. There were many issues that the city leaders would have to deal with, and each Mayor elected had different ideas of how best they could do the job.
Frank has had a successful career as a CPA since he was 21. He is experienced with managing people and business finances, budgeting and financial planning. Even though it was very easy for those of us who are spectators to judge and complain about our leader’s performance perhaps it was time for Frank to become a candidate that could make a difference.
After the total shock that family and friends who learned of his decision were dealing with passed their next response was to go full speed ahead. Each of the family members played a role in the campaign and we discovered many talents that would be needed as a team to meet the monumental task.
We each offered our best and had no regrets. We did not win enough votes to be chosen as Mayor, but we can say that we are proud that we didn’t pass up this amazing opportunity of a lifetime.
