Seven Sisters of the Holy Family Sisters celebrated jubilees of religious profession June 14 with a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Maria Goretti Church.
The jubilarians are Sister Mary Romuald Cormier and Sister Mary Innocente Wiltz, 80 years; Sister Gloria Lewis, Sister Mary Laurita Oliver, Sister Maria Consilia Saizan and Sister Lucille Stelly, 75 years; and Sister Mary Laura Mercier, 60 years.
Sister M. Romuald Cormier, a native of Cankton, Louisiana, ministered mainly in education at the elementary and pre-school levels all in Louisiana. She continues her prayer ministry as a resident at the Lafon Nursing Facility of the Holy Family.
Sister Mary Innocente Wiltz, a native of St. Martinville, Louisiana, was nourished by the Blessed Sacrament Sisters who taught her and the guardianship of Divine Word Father Rousseve, her confessor and parish priest. She taught in 18 schools. At 98, she visits the sick sisters and prays with those who are transitioning.
Sister Gloria Lewis, a native of Silver City, Panama, has taught Spanish, American History, English as a Second Language and religion to elementary school students and high school. She currently prays the rosary on Thursdays at 3 p.m. on the Catholic Radio Station, Radio Maria, in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Sister Mary Laurita Oliver, a native of Mansura, Louisiana, earned her degree at Xavier University of Louisiana and concentrated on early childhood education and administration. She is now a prayer warrior at Lafon Nursing Facility,
Sister Maria Consilia Saizan, a native of New Orleans, earned a degree in music and voice from the College of St. Theresa in Winona, Minnesota. She taught many years at St. Mary’s Academy in New Orleans. She resides and participates in prayer ministry at Lafon Nursing Facility. She still loves to sing.
Sister Lucille Stelly, a native of Opelousas, taught at Holy Family in Covington and All Saints in Algiers. She also served 13 years in nursing care at Lafon Nursing Home of the Holy Family. She is still active as a receptionist, companion to the sick and shopping partner.
Sister M. Laura Mercier, a native of Baton Rouge, earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Xavier University and a degree in nursing from Dillard University, Louisiana. Sister Laura ministered locally in education at St. Mary’s Academy, St. Paul the Apostle, Lafon Nursing Home of the Holy Family, and All Saints School. She also spent a memorable school year at Delille Academy in Dangriga, Belize. Sister tries to remain close to God in all her trials and opportunities for ministry.
