In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, St. Catherine of Siena Church in Metairie organized a robust disaster relief effort to support affected communities in North Carolina.
The parish community collected and sent two trucks filled with food, water and essential supplies, along with over $52,000 in financial assistance, to aid in the recovery efforts, according to Father Tim Hedrick, St. Catherine of Siena pastor.
The supplies were delivered to Trinity of Fairhaven Church, which serves Hendersonville, Fairhaven, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Edneyville, Black Mountain and other small surrounding communities.
Once the supplies arrived at Trinity of Fairhaven, volunteers used pickup trucks to distribute them as far as possible along accessible roads. For the most isolated families, four-wheelers and side-by-sides were used to deliver the supplies directly, ensuring that even those in hard-to-reach areas received the help they needed.
This marks the fifth time St. Catherine of Siena has mobilized its parish community for disaster relief, continuing their commitment to assisting those impacted by natural disasters with critical resources and support. [email protected]
