St. Paul announces first Michael H. Swords Stand Strong scholarships

St. Paul’s School announced the inaugural 2020-21 Michael H. Swords Stand Strong Scholarship winners. The scholarship was created in honor of Michael (Mike) Hurd Swords Sr. by his wife Ruby Swords and son Michael H. Swords Jr. Three generations of the Swords family have attended: Cullom Swords ‘50, Michael H. Swords ‘78 and his son Michael ’09. The C.J. Swords family also includes Saint Paul’s Alumni.
“Mike always just did the right thing," his family said. "He served. He gave back. He was the good guy.”
St. Paul’s faculty and administration nominated the candidates, and Ruby and Michael interviewed them before awarding the scholarships.
The Michael H. Swords Stand Strong 2020-21 Scholarship awardees are: Evan Leaber and Ethan Wilson, sophomores; Brian Lea and Carter Murphy, juniors; and Davis Lagarde and Ben Broussard, seniors.
