The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and I am so grateful to God for this revelation. We first learned about the Sacred Heart of Jesus through private revelations experienced by St. Mary Margaret Alacoque between 1673-1675.
After the resurrection, Jesus tells Thomas the Apostle to place his hand in his side. Jesus wants Thomas to know that he is alive, increasing faith in all. God made us in his image and likeness. Like Jesus, we have two arms, two legs, 10 fingers and so on. Yet, we must ask Jesus to make our hearts like his.
Pope Leo XIV recently asked us to “return to the Sacred Heart, model of true humanity, and ask him to make our heart ever more like his.”
This shows Pope Leo’s devotion to the Sacred Heart because what he says is very similar to an old prayer to the Sacred Heart: “Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto thine.”
Let us pray for the pope, and may he continue to inspire us to imitate the Sacred Heart. Reports say that Pope Leo XIV began the month of June by praising marriage and the family. God has made the connection between the Sacred Heart and the family, and so is Pope Leo.
One devotion that can bring families closer to the Sacred Heart is the Divine Mercy. The sacred image of Divine Mercy shows a beautiful image of Jesus with great light and splendor. At the bottom of the image, there are these words: “Jesus, I trust in you.” Very often, these prayers are used on the dying and sick, but they’re beneficial to all.
One great family devotion is having your home enthroned to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I find it a beautiful prayer ceremony that creates faith and dependence upon God’s grace. Jesus told St. Mary Margaret Alacoque, “I will bless the houses in which an image of my heart is exposed and honored.”
The enthronement prayer is special to me: “May thy triumphant heart, O Jesus, be forever loved, blessed and glorified in this home! Thy Kingdom Come! Amen!”
May this month bring you closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
