In what many are calling the most significant step forward for the benefit of all claimant survivors in the Archdiocese of New Orleans Chapter 11 Reorganization, a settlement has been reached between the archdiocese, the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, certain insurance companies, and, for the first time, attorneys representing certain abuse survivors. The Memorandum of Understanding between the parties has been signed and attorneys representing survivors have been communicating the update to their clients.
This new settlement agreement means that those attorneys who have signed the MOU will in fact support the plan that was approved by the Federal Bankruptcy Court in August and encourage their clients to vote in favor of the plan. The voting materials have been mailed to all claimants in the bankruptcy and votes must be submitted by October 29, 2025.
This announcement comes after several weeks of negotiations and mediation that brought all the parties together.
“I remain very hopeful and committed to bringing this bankruptcy to a conclusion that benefits the survivors of abuse,” said New Orleans Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond. “I know there remain much works to be done and I continue to hold this work in prayer. Please know that I pray for the survivors of abuse every day and look forward to the opportunity to meet with them to hear their stories first hand.”
