This morning it was announced that Pope Leo XIV has appointed Most Reverend James Checchio, JCD, MBA of the Diocese of Metuchen Coadjutor Archbishop of New Orleans. Archbishop Gregory Aymond will introduce New Orleans’ new Coadjutor Archbishop this morning at a press conference at 10 am.

Students from Archbishop Hannan High School’s G.R.A.C.E. (Grow, Rise, Achieve Through Catholic Education) program are taking flight this year as they take over management of the northshore high school’s Spirit Wing bookstore. The G.R.A.C.E. students will open and operate the bookstore during all home football games, at lunch time and before school.
The Archbishop Hannan Community Appeal (AHCA), as it was renamed in 2012, is the annual giving campaign of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans beginning in September and ending in February each year. This year’s volunteer-driven fundraiser is led by Archbishop Gregory Aymond and chairs Kevin and Nancy Colomb.
Thanks to a generous gift from an anonymous donor, the Foundation collaborated with The St. Louis IX Art Society in commissioning artist Blair Gordy Piras to create the works which will be on display at the Catholic Foundation Annual Dinner on Oct. 9. The pieces beautifully portray these holy men and women standing together against the New Orleans skyline, reminders of real saints who lived out their faith through works of boundless generosity.
Local artist Blair Gordy Piras has been painting sacred images for the Church for almost 10 years, making her latest venture of equipping fellow artists to assist and take on church projects themselves a natural fit. Through her new studio, The Saint Joan of Arc Sacred Art Atelier on the Northshore, Piras provides students with both technical training as well as opportunities to shadow and learn from professional artists serving the Church.
