Jesuit High School senior William Degenhart Jr., who served as Marine Corps Junior ROTC battalion commander, received direct appointments to not one, but three service academies: the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Military Academy at West Point and the United States Naval Academy.

When Pope Leo XIV was elected on May 8, Cabrini High School excitedly began reflecting on possible ties the city and the high school might have to the new pontiff.

Over the course of the school year, students from the Academy of the Sacred Heart competed against other students in the New Orleans Academic Games League in hopes of qualifying for the national tournament, sponsored by the Academy Games League, in Washington, D.C.

After performing at several impressive places and events this year, including appearances on FOX 8 News and at a luncheon for Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, nothing compared to the ECHO Choir of the Academy of Our Lady being asked to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Salesian Father Steve Ryan, director and head of Archbishop Shaw, said the school has created a unique system to unite students across grade levels into four cohorts guided by the inspiring lives of four extraordinary saints: Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (who will both be canonized this year), and St. Francis de Sales and St. Dominic Savio.

Navigating the transition from one grade to the next can be extremely challenging, which is why St. Mary’s Academy (SMA) makes a special effort through its Summer Enrichment Program to assist girls in grades K-8 in preparing themselves for that move.
