In front of pews filled with family, friends and parishioners from various parishes he has served in over the past few years, one young man was ordained by Archbishop Gregory Aymond to the priesthood May 31 at St. Louis Cathedral.
With the election of Pope Leo XIV, the church and the world had to come to grips with an unexpected, new spiritual leader, unsure of what his pontificate would mean.
I have written about this before, but when I thought about the most important topic to me as a family in my last NOLA Catholic Parenting column, it must be family dinnertime.

Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad
Juan 16: 12-15
Queridos hermanos:
The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and I am so grateful to God for this revelation. We first learned about the Sacred Heart of Jesus through private revelations experienced by St. Mary Margaret Alacoque between 1673-1675.
The diaconate has become very important to the life of the church. I express deep gratitude to these men and also to their wives for what they do together in ministry, and especially for the support their wives give them as they minister to the church.
In reality, there are no lone rangers when it comes to explaining the mystery of a vocation to serve the church in ordained ministry or in religious life, Archbishop Gregory Aymond told the seven men he ordained June 14 to the permanent diaconate for the Archdiocese of New Orleans at St. Louis Cathedral.
Time is a funny thing. It’s often not until we look back at artifacts – pictures, writing, artwork – that we truly understand growth and the passage of time.
